CCEA Advanced GCE in Geography.
Students wishing to do ‘A’ Level Geography should achieve
a grade B in GCSE Geography.
The Advanced Level examination is in two parts:
• Advanced Subsidiary (AS) – 50% of total award (Year 13)
• Advanced (A2) – 50% of total award (Year 14)
WHAT YOU WILL BE LEARNING
The AS comprises two units. They
are:
• AS 1: Physical Geography (including fieldwork skills) (1 hour
30 minute exam)
• AS 2: Human Geography (including skills and techniques) (1 hour
30 minute exam)
The A2 comprises two units. They
are:
• A2 1: Human Geography and Global Issues (1 hour 30 minute exam)
In Human Geography two of the following options must be studied:
Option A: Impact of Population Change.
Option B: Planning for Sustainable Settlements.
Option C: Issues in Ethnic Diversity.
In Global Issues one of the following elements must be studied:
Element 1: Air Pollution
Element 2: Nuclear Energy
Element 3: Agricultural Change and its Impact
Element 4: Issues in Tourism
• A2 2: Physical Geography and Decision Making
(2 hour 30 minute exam)
In Physical Geography two of the following units must be studied:
Option A: Fluvial and Coastal Environments.
Option B: The Nature and Sustainability of Tropical Ecosystems.
Option C: The Dynamic Earth

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED
Assessment is by examination.
Assessment Objectives:
• Show knowledge of the specified content.
• Show critical understanding of the specified content.
• Apply knowledge and critical understanding to unfamiliar contexts.
• Select and use a variety of skills and techniques, including
communication skills, appropriate to geographical skills.

A Level Geography forms a useful foundation for careers in agriculture,
conservation, cartography, education, environmental work, landscape
architecture, local government, meteorology, planning, transport and
communications, tourism and many more.
