GCSE DRAMA

Northern Ireland GCSE Syllabus.

WHAT YOU WILL BE LEARNING ABOUT

GCSE Drama is a developed programme which leads on from the Key Stage III syllabus. The four dramatic forms of Acting, Mime, Improvisation and Dance Drama are studied in greater depth and there is also the opportunity to study the dramatic competencies, including lighting, costumes, electronic media and set design.

Drama offers students an avenue to explore self-expression. You will be developing skills in both the areas of imagination and creativity. With the skills you will acquire through Drama, you will also be advancing yourselves in a personal nature.

You will develop team skills, applying your knowledge of the world and also gaining confidence in yourselves and your work.

Drama uses social issues to help students understand the human condition and values.

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

Coursework: 60%

Written Examination: 40%

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Drama teaches skills that are applicable in any area of the workforce. Working in a team, learning the power of compromise and highlighting the importance of understanding.

Students also develop analytical as well as practical skills. So whether considering a career in the drama world or elsewhere, Drama offers students a wide range of opportunities.

It is also an essential GCSE to have if you are considering a career on the stage, television, radio or any other sphere of the entertainment business.
