At the recent Ulster Age Group Cross-country Championships held in Belfast and Donegal, students from Integrated College Dungannon (ICD) ran brilliantly to qualify for All-Ireland Final Races.

First up in Belfast, Fionnuala Ross ran a strong race in the U-18 Girls Race to come home in an excellent 5th place. Speaking about yet another successful run by Fionnuala, college PE tutor, Stephen Rice said, 'Fionnuala has consistently been in the top six cross-country runners in her age group in Ireland over the last few years and she will compete strongly in Athlone in the All-Ireland finals later in the month'.

Also, running in Belfast Cormac Dolan ran a solid race in the U-16 Boys ace to finish in 25th place.

At the Ulster Age Group Championships held in Stranorlar, Donegal, ICD had representatives running the Girls and Boys U-15 year old races. First up, Megan Bothwell and Emma Rice had excellent performances in the Girls Race. Both girls made steady progress through the field in the 1500m race, with Emma finishing in 5th place and Megan finishing strongly at 13th. Unfortunately, Megan missed out on All-Ireland qualification by one place.

In the boys race, Joseph Collins came from well back in the pack to finish in 12th place and gain a qualifying place.

ICD will have three athletes in the All-Ireland Finals,Fionnuala Ross will represent the College in the U-17 Girls Race in Athlone, Emma Rice, Cormac Dolan and Joseph Collins will run in the U-16 Girls and Boys Races in Dungarvan, County Waterford.

Mr Andrew Sleeth, College Principal congratulated the students saying, 'Well done to all the students who participated and our best wishes to those who qualified for the All-Ireland finals. I hope they will continue to perpetuate our successes in this area. I would like to thank our staff and parents for all the time and effort you give to support the students'.
