| The staff and sixth form students
from Integrated College Dungannon (ICD) recently went head to head
against each other in a charity soccer match. The game organised
by A-Level students; Luke McCall, Alan Cummings and Head
of Physical Education, Mr Stephen Rice proved to be an enormous
success, raising £563.60 for the Northern Ireland Chest, Heart
and Stroke Association. Over 200
students paid to watch a very competitive game, played in an excellent
atmosphere. The staff team from the outset forced the pace and
with Dominic Clarke and Nick Gamble very solid at the back they
took the game to the students at every opportunity. Midway through
the first half a great through ball from Ryan Coyle split the
student defence and Fintan Kelly made no mistake from close range.
The teams turned around with the staff
still a goal up and despite the promptings of Alan Cummings, James
Gordon and Jude Hughes the staff continued to dominate. It was
no surprise when William McCreedy added to the lead with a wonderful
curling effort from well outside the box.
Two goals up and with only 15 minutes to
go the staff made the fatal mistake of taking their foot of the
pedal and the students quickly responded with a great strike from
Alan Cummings. A lack of fitness was beginning to show among the
staff and with 5 minutes remaining a terrible goal keeping error
by Colin Holmes allowed Carlos Stinson to score the equalising
goal. In the dying minutes Colin Holmes redeemed himself with
a wonderful save from Alan Cummings.
The game finished with the scores level
and everyone agreed that it had been an excellent encounter.
Speaking after the match Mr Andrew Sleeth,
Principal, described the match as 'A fun-filled, action
packed game to raise funds for a very worthy cause. Well done
to everyone who participated and thank you to Alan and Luke.';
A tremendous total of £563.60
was presented at the college assembly to Brian McCluskey, Area
Appeals Co-ordinator from the Northern Ireland Chest, Heart and
Stroke Association. 'You have raised a tremendous amount
of money and done so in a way that everyone in the college was
able to enjoy. Thank you all for your support.' added Mr
McCluskey.
