Successful Netball Blitz Organised for Local Primary Schools
26 March, 2009

Integrated College Dungannon students recently organised a netball blitz for 12 local primary schools as part of their studies in BTEC Nationals in Sport.

The students worked alongside the Youth Sport South Programme - an organisation which aims to provide and promote sporting opportunities for young people in the Dungannon area.

ICD Sixth form students were involved in coaching the young primary school pupils from the participating schools, giving them the opportunity to develop a range of skills and helping prepare the pupils for the tournament.

After what proved a very competitive tournament, a presentation of awards took place with the Mayor for Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, Lord Maurice Morrow and Integrated College Dungannon, Principal, Mr Andrew Sleeth, presenting medals to the winning teams.

Speaking after the tournament, Mrs Rita McKenna, Youth Sport South Co-ordinator said, 'I would like to thank all the coaches and students who have helped to make this event successful. I would also like to thank the teachers and principals from our local feeder primary schools who have supported the programme and especially the ICD students and the participants in the tournament who have displayed some excellent skill and enthusiasm today.'

The netball blitz is one of many sporting activities delivered by the highly qualified coaches involved with the Youth Sport South Programme, which is now in its tenth successful year. These events provide the children with the opportunity to show off their new skills and meet pupils form other schools in the area.
