At the recent Ulster Age Group Championships held at Jordanstown, Belfast and Stranorlar, Donegal students from Integrated College Dungannon (ICD) proved to be more than a match for the best runners in Ulster.
At the Even Age Group races in Jordanstown Emma Rice running in the U-6 Girls’ race came home in a very credible 8th place to qualify for the Irish Finals in Tramore, County Waterford. In the Senior Womens’ Race Fionnuala Ross ran a storming race to finish 3rd and her reward is a place in a trial race in Waterford for selection for the European Cross Country Championships in Dublin in December.
Following on from this success ICD also made their mark at the Odd Age Group Championships in Donegal. Joe Collins ran a strong race to finish 12th in the U17 Boys’ Race. Emma Rice in the U17 Girls’ Race finished 9th and Fionnuala Ross in the U19 Girls’ Race finished 4th. They all qualify for the Irish Finals in Cavan in December. There were also promising performances from newcomers Gary Cairns, Jordan Boyd and Ciaran Molloy.
Mr Sleeth, ICD College Principal said, “I would like to congratulate all the students on their participation in these events and extend our support and best wishes to those students who have qualified for forthcoming events in Cavan and Dublin”.
