ICD Student wins Ulster Title
20 May, 2008

At the recent Ulster Schools Athletic Finals held at the Antrim Forum, Integrated College Dungannon (ICD) student Fionnuala Ross captured the Senior Girls 3000m title.

Fionnuala running from the front led throughout the race to come home in a time of 10 minutes 38 seconds. She will now represent the college at the All-Ireland Schools Finals in Tullamore.

Mr Stephen Rice, Head of PE at ICD said, "Fionnuala won a bronze medal at this event last year and she will be hoping to build on this success. She is a talented, determined runner who will do well.

Fionnuala has had an excellent year, finishing 4th in the Ulster Schools' Cross Country Championships and representing Nothern Ireland in the Inter Country Championships in Edinburgh before the World Cross Country Championships.

Principal at ICD, Mr Andrew Sleeth added, "Fionnuala is a very committed athlete who is a great role model for our younger students. I wish her every success in Tullamore at the All Ireland Schools Finals".

Well done to the other finalists who all ran competive races. Alan Ford in the 200m set a PB of 24.2 seconds to make the 200m final, Cormac Dolan finished 6th in the steeplechase, Kevin McCool finished 6th in the 800m and Emma Rice finished 7th in the 1500m.
