The Year 10 Netball girls
from ICD succeeded in getting to the final of the Cross Community
League after convincing wins over and Fivemiletown College.
The Dungannon girls found themselves in a playoff situation
with Fivemiletown where the winner would progress to the final
to meet the already waiting Cookstown High School. The ICD girls
succeed in getting a victory over Fivemiletown in what was a
very competitive match from the outset.
The final was played in
Dungannon Leisure Centre, between two teams who are no strangers
to each other. Cookstown easily having the upper hand in terms
of wins in recent games. However the Dungannon side were confident
going into the game as the girls had worked hard and had put
a lot of effort into training through the year.
Cookstown got off to a perfect
start with a goal from the onset which proved to be a lead they
would never loose. Defensively ICD had to work extremely hard
to curtail an impressive Cookstown shooting duo, but when given
the opportunity the Dungannon shooters proved to be a handful
at the opposite end.
Both teams should be congratulated
on a highly entering and sporting game which Cookstown emerged
eventual winners. The Dungannon netballers should feel proud
of their efforts and certainly hold a lot of potential for future
years.
The schools involved
and the organisers of the Cross Community Netball League and
tournaments would like to thank the PSNI for their support and
sponsorship of the competitions over the past year.
