Integrated College Dungannon V Hazlewood
Integrated
The ICD girls travelled to Lisburn on Wednesday
30th January to take on the experienced Hazelwood side in the first
round of the Integrated Cup competition.
It was difficult for both sides to predict the outcome of the game
as very little was known about the opposition.
It was the Belfast based side who were first to settle scoring the
first goal almost immediately, however this seemed to only encourage
the ICD girls as they answered back with a goal from the reliable
shooter Mona Younes. With the scores level both teams began to settle
into their rhythm exchanging goals at both ends before the Dungannon
girls started to up the work rate and began to pull away, at one
stage they extended the score difference to 3 between the sides.
Some top quality shooting from Mona and Karen Hegarty was really
paying off for all the hard work going on further out court from
Emma Rice, Laura Boyd and Danielle Dobson. As the half time whistle
approached Hazelwood pulled the gap back to 2 goals, leaving ICD
leading 6-4 at half time.
As the second half got underway the Dungannon
girls knew they still had a lot of work to do to hold onto the lead.
The perfect start came when Karen fired in a long range shot which
lifted the confidence within the team. However Hazlewood were not
going to give in easily as they fought back scoring 2 unanswered
goals. In defence for ICD, Gemma Cumberland and Courtney Kingham
began to feel the intensity of the Hazelwood attack however both
defenders rose to the challenge and made some crucial interceptions
to relieve the threat the attackers were causing. As time ticked
away both sides exchanged scores but it was ICD who proved to be
most accurate on shooting terms and they extended their lead in
the second half to 3 goals, leaving the winning score line as 11-
3.
Congratulations to the ICD girls who
now progress onto face Sperrin Integrated College on Tuesday 5th
February in Cookstown Leisure Centre. Good luck girls.
