Sentinus Robotic Road show
On Tuesday 6th December 2011, all year 8 students took part in the Sentinus Robotic Road show. The students put their problem solving skills to very good use by working through a series of robotic challenges.
Working in pairs, supported by a team of trained KS4 mentors, the students were taught how to assemble, programme and control their own robots. Students then wrote out their own programmes which they then downloaded to their robot to enable it to carry out its tasks. The event concluded with a competitive challenge for the teams at the end of the day.
All students thoroughly enjoyed their robotic day and there was plenty of completion throughout the day. As the day was split into two sessions the following students proved to have the best programming skills.

Brian Campbell, Chief Executive, Sentinus, said “Considering the recent decline in the number of students opting to study science and technology subjects, it is vital that we open up the exciting world of science and technology to young people. This Robotics Road show provides an excellent opportunity to show that science and technology is relevant and can be stimulating and fun.”
Mr Campbell went on to say:
“It also supports the new Northern Ireland Curriculum by providing opportunities to enhance the development of a whole range of skills and capabilities including ICT skills, team working, problem solving, communication and decision making.”
