Technology and Design
Students wishing to study Technology and
Design should have a good mathematics and science background,
especially physics. Students should also have an ability to communicate
ideas through various graphical and technical means for designing.
The subject Common Core, which is applicable for the higher and
foundation tiers, content is divided into four main areas. All
Students should have a working knowledge and understanding of
• DESIGNING
• COMMUNICATING
• MANUFACTURING
• USING ENERGY AND CONTROL
Four energy and control specialist options
are available for Higher Tier Students. They are:
• Computer Systems and Control
• Electronics Systems and Control
• Mechanical Systems and Control
• Pneumatics Systems and Control
Scheme of Assessment
60% Coursework consists of two activities
(1.) Focused Tasks (10%)
(2.) Design Project (50%)
40% Examination Papers
Higher Tier Paper (2hours 30minutes) - Students will be able to
target grades in the range A* -D(E).
Foundation Tier Paper (1hour 45minutes)
– Students will be able to target grades in the range C-G.
