In years 11 & 12 everyone gets
the opportunity to study RE. They may choose one of the
following courses.

What’s the difference between
the GCSE Short Course and the Full Course?
The Short Course is shorter! –
It’s taken on 2 periods per week – the Full
Course has 4 periods per week. Both courses are GCSEs and
will appear on your GCSE certificate alongside your other
subjects.
Do I have to be ‘religious’
to take the course?
In a word – No! It’s
more important that you are intrigued to study religious
communities in all their complex reality and are interested
in finding out why Christians believe in what they do.
What will I study in RE?
Both courses follow a similar core.
There are four sections to each course:
- A study of world religions.
- The teachings of Jesus.
- The beliefs and practices of
the Christian Churches today.
- Moral issues examined from a
Christian perspective.
What can I expect?
Class-discussions, videos, role-plays
and group-work. Be prepared to express your own opinions
and listen to other people’s points of view.
'A' Level
What GCSEs do I need to take ‘A’
level RE?
No particular GCSEs are required
– it’s not necessary to have taken the Full-
Course at GCSE.
What about GCSE Grades?
Good grades in subjects such as RE,
English, and History would be a good indicator of your ability
to study RE at ‘A’ level.
What can be done with a RE qualification?
RS is accepted by the leading universities
as a valid entrance qualification…….including
medicine and dentistry (plus the obvious sciences…of
course!).
Students who have taken RS have gone
