Home Economics at the Integrated
College Dungannon provides all students the opportunity to learn
about diet and health, the home and family, consumerism and managing
resources. It aims to help students develop an understanding of
people and of their basic needs for food, shelter and personal
relationships. Within this framework, education in Home Economics
equips young people with knowledge and skills which will enable
them to make reasoned and informed decisions for themselves concerning
the management of available resources to satisfy the needs and
priorities of everyday life.
All pupils study Home Economics
in Year 8, Year 9 and Year 10. Pupils can then choose the subject
at GCSE (OCR syllabus) and subsequently at A Level (CEA syllabus).
GCSE Home Economics (Food and Nutrition) students are also provided
with the opportunity to complete a Certificate in Basic Food Hygiene.
Home Economics is a popular
subject in the curriculum at the Integrated College Dungannon,
with increasing numbers at AS and A2 level for both Home Economics
and Health and Social Care
Students learn through a variety
of activities including groupwork, practicals, investigations,
videos, demonstrations, competitions and research.
The department has two well-equipped
rooms where the environment inspires learning.
