Between now and May you will be working on a Project about the
Middle Ages.
You may choose one of following topics :
- The Black Death
- Castles
- Norman Knights
- The Bayeux Tapestry
- Any other aspect of life in Norman times that you choose. However,
if you decide to do this, you must discuss your topic with Miss
Burke or Mr. Ross
Your Project should be handed in by Friday
May 5th. 2006
The following information will help you while you are working on
your Project.
Some FAQ’S ( frequently asked
questions!! )
How long should the project be?
How long is a piece of string? Your Project should be as long as
you think it needs to be to deal with your topic the way you want
to. Remember its is content that is important………one
page of your own work is better than 40 pages downloaded from a
web-site!
Where can I get help with my Project?
- Your textbooks. This is
always a good starting point for a Project. It will give you ideas
about the things you might try to find more information about.
- The College Library. There
is very good history section in the library and lots of books
on the Normans. There is also a very interesting display on the
side walls. Miss Gilligan is always willing to help if you are
stuck, but try to find the books you need yourself….this
is an important part of your Project.
- Your local Library. Don’t
be afraid to ask the librarian to point you in the right direction.
- The Internet. Remember
this is available to everyone in the library at certain times.
Check with the librarian for details.
How will I get a good mark for my Project
?
Good question! A good Project will :
- Be your own work, with nothing copied directly from books or
websites.
- Be well organised with a title page and table of contents. Your
writing should be organised in paragraphs with headings where
appropriate.
- Be illustrated with drawings, maps and diagrams. It is fine
to use illustrations from books or websites as long as they are
relevant…that means they should show what you are writing
about.
- Show that you know about and understand the topic you have chosen.
- Show evidence that you have organised your work properly and
have done it over several weeks rather than the week before it
is due!
- Show evidence that you have used a number of different sources
of information.
- Be neatly presented. Handwritten is fine.
Good Luck!
