Geography

History of the Department

In the early days, the Geography Department was established and led by Mr Dominic Clarke. As the college grew in size there was a need for a Geography specialist and so Mrs Helen Barr was employed in 1996.

In September 1998, Mrs Barr was succeeded by Mrs Yvonne Beggs, who established and developed GCSE Geography and in 2005 this expanded to A’ Level.

As demand for the subject increased, Mrs Lesley-Ann Hetherington, another geographer, was employed in 2001.

Geography is always a popular choice with the students which reflects the enthusiasm and dedication of the department’s staff. Students get the opportunity to see the relevance of Geography today through a range of fieldwork activities each year.
