GCSE Business Studies

Background to the Department

The Business Studies department was established in 1999 under the direction of Mr Trevor Dickson. The department thrived under the leadership of Mr Dickson, who left to take up a new post in June 2004. Today, the main subjects taught are Business Studies, Business & Communication Systems and Word Processing.

Ms Yvonne Bloomer, the newly appointed Head of Business Studies, will endeavour to continue Mr Dickson’s good work and will this year re-establish the mini-enterprise scheme for Year 11 students. A number of very successful mini companies have been run through this scheme in the past, including businesses selling school fleeces and hats, calendars and mother’s day scrolls. We look forward to witnessing the innovation and dedication of the 2005-2006 mini company.

The business department welcomes parental involvement and has previously organised successful Information Technology courses for beginners during two consecutive years. Under the guidance of tutor Yvonne Bloomer and IT Technician William McCreedy, parents were taken through basic Information Technology skills. The courses were provided at the request of the Parent Council and proved highly popular.
