Healthy Eating & Sport Initiative

Since April students and staff of the Integrated College Dungannon have been given tokens each time they purchase a healthy meal in the school canteen. Students and staff who collected 8 or more vouchers within two weeks received a free swimming voucher to use in Dungannon Leisure Centre.

As a reward the student who collected the most healthy-eating vouchers was presented with a mountain bike, sponsored by Investing for Health and R & R Cycles in Dungannon. Year 8 student Bernaldo Marime, pictured below, was the lucky winner of the bike.

The Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, Mr Barry Monteith, presented ten runner up students at the college with gift vouchers before congratulating and presenting the overall winner Bernaldo Marime with the mountain bike.

‘‘I was delighted when Mr Sleeth (Principle) called my name out as the winner. I really enjoy the healthy eating options served in the canteen so it wasn’t difficult for me to collect lots of tokens. It was a great idea to promote healthy eating. Lots of my friends are eating more healthy foods now as well. It was good to meet the mayor and to have him present my prize. He was really friendly and congratulated me on winning’’.
